Diplomats and highly paid representatives from 57 countries sit in a five-star hotel for two weeks repeating platitudes that are then collated, annotated and recorded to make them all feel like they achieved something. I was there for two days. During that time I gave the representatives of Spain, Portugal and Germany a helpful lecture on the migrant ferries across the Med and let them know that by accepting trafficked people, they were complicit in the crime. It did not go down well.
