Germany’s farmers are fighting back against green tyranny
German farmers are in revolt. Today, tractors began blocking city centres and highways as part of a week-long demonstration against the government. Ostensibly, the protest is about plans to hike taxes on diesel and petrol and on new farm vehicles. But, as Sabine Beppler-Spahl argues on spiked today, this is also an uprising against the green agenda full stop. Under Germany's stringent Net Zero plans, farmers are expected to radically reduce their use of fertilisers. This will do enormous damage to crop yields, put thousands of farmers out of business and wreak havoc with Germany's food supply. But the eco-obsessed elites don't seem to care about the consequences. Their zealous pursuit of Net Zero is completely unhinged. Farmers are right to rise up against them.
