Dear Member of Parliament Jagmeet Singh

03/23/2022

I am writing to you as the Leader of the federal New Democratic Party to express my concern with your commitment to support the Liberal government in votes of confidence over the next 3 years in exchange for tax-payer funded 'free dental and drug plans' for all Canadians (and I assume all non-citizen immigrants and refugees though I may be wrong on this point). Based on the term Democratic being used in your party name one would think that your focus would be on democracy as a foundation for Canadian governance but looking at the recent record of this Prime Minister I struggle to see his democratic qualities.

The term democracy in my mind speaks of Pluralism - the free exchange of varying points of view both for individuals and media yet:

• This Prime Minister uses tax-payer funds of $595 million dollars annually to pay off mainstream media to paint positive images of his government

• This Prime Minister publicly referred to Canadians who raise legitimate concerns about mRNA shots as a 'small fringe minority with unacceptable views' that do not represent the way most Canadians feel

• This Prime Minister invoked the Emergency Act meant for times of national peril to criminalize a peaceful truckers protest. This resulted in unjustified violence undertaken by police including, beating unarmed citizens with batons, pepper spray and trampling on citizens with horses

• This Prime Minister is now moving to pass Bill C-11 which is aimed at shutting down free sharing of thoughts over the internet while most likely favouring one side only on various issues

Last weekend I was watching a segment of W5 which was discussing Putin's current domination over public life and discussion in Russia. The segment accused him of controlling all media, inciting violence against citizens peacefully protesting the war and referring to those who oppose his actions as 'bastards'. As I watched I could not help but draw a comparison between the actions of Putin and our Prime Minister; a far cry from democratic, yet you are now agreeing to support this man and his style.

Your actions are far from promoting democracy, is this what is meant by 'New' Democratic Party?

Please be advised that it is the Lord God who raises up kings and deposes of them and it is arrogance that causes their downfall.

I urge you to reconsider. How do we expect to reap where we do not sow?
