The Battle for the Soul of America

Earlier this month, when Trump declared, at a White House Conference on American History, that 'our mission is to defend the legacy of America's founding', he was again denounced for trying to stir up a culture war. What Trump's detractors overlook is that it was not him who started this current phase of the culture wars. That honour falls to the 1619 Project, which was launched by the New York Times on 14 August 2019.
