Please sign our petition against the sex-selective abortion of preborn baby girls

While the Trudeau Liberals purport to champion the rights of women, they have left the door wide open to one of the greatest violations of women's rights in the world - the sex-selective abortion of preborn baby girls. Girls are being aborted just because they are girls.

Under the Trudeau government's current policy, an abortion can be obtained for any reason or for no reason, through all nine months of pregnancy. This means that once the sex of a child is determined via ultrasound, parents have the option of ending the life of that child simply because they preferred a boy instead of a girl.

This new type of gender discrimination is not just a hypothetical possibility. It is happening right now, right here, in Canada.

This should be infuriating to anyone who cares about women's rights - especially to anyone like Mr. Trudeau, who boasts of his self-proclaimed feminism. And yet Mr. Trudeau's silence on this ultimate form of misogyny is deafening.

Around the world, sex-selective abortions are eliminating millions of women. In India, around 100,000 preborn baby girls are being murdered every year. In China it is estimated that as many as 15% of all preborn girls never make it to birth.

According to a 2018 United Nations Population Fund report, some 126 million females are "missing" from the world population. This is primarily due to sex-selective abortion. Ms. Nobuko Horibe, the Director of UNFPA's Asia and Pacific Regional Office has said: "We must accelerate our efforts and give priority to developing programmes and policies that foster norms and an attitude of 'zero tolerance' for discrimination, harmful attitudes and unethical practices, such as prenatal sex selection."

The reasons for preborn female gendercide are varied. In some cultures and worldviews, women are deemed inferior to men. They are seen as a net social and economic burden to their families. They are viewed as disposable.

And when those same families migrate to Canada, they bring their prejudices and practices to this country. Here, they find abortionists and pro-abortion politicians all too ready to accommodate.

According to a disturbing 2017 report in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Canada, there are literally thousands of girls "missing" from our nation. In a certain segment of Ontario's Punjabi community, 240 boys are born for every 100 girls. In a similar segment of Ontario's Hindi community, the ratio is 163 to 100. This is far above the natural average of 105 to 100. This clearly shows the reality of the sex-selective abortion atrocity in Canada.

In response to this mass-slaughter of little girls, Saskatchewan MP Cathay Wagantall has introduced Bill C-233, the "Sex Selective Abortion Act". This Bill, brought forward this past Wednesday, would prohibit doctors from committing abortions solely on the grounds of the child's genetic sex.

Here is what Ms. Wagantall says about the need for this legislation:

"Eighty-four percent of Canadians are against sex selective abortion. Legislators have the responsibility to ensure that it is prohibited by law. Sex selective abortion is antithetical to our commitment to equality and needs to be prohibited as an unacceptable practice... Our silence condones and possibly perpetuates the practice of sex selection... Canada must act now to condemn this practice and to make it apparent to all that Canada values women and equality. If there is even one female pre-born child who is terminated because of her sex, we need to act."

In order to show our support for Ms. Wagantall and her proposed Bill C-233, the "Sex Selective Abortion Act", I would ask you sign our petition. We need to encourage all MPs - from all parties - to get behind this common-sense Bill.
