Although
many Muslim women consider the hijab nothing more than an outward expression of
female modesty, for many others it is a political statement, sometimes
signifying anti-Western sentiment or support for political Islam. Many women
choose to wear it; many others are forced to. Personally, I have no wish to 'experience' the hijab any
more than I wish to 'experience' a crucifix around my neck.
