Mosque vandal avoids jail, many at mosque forgive him

The young man who threw food at the Owen Sound mosque last summer avoided jail Wednesday, but the judge warned such an act motivated by religious bias as his would generally demand jail.

Brandon Hodder, 22, of Owen Sound received a 45-day conditional sentence, during which he must remain home during specified night-time hours, with exceptions, followed by 18 months probation, with 200 hours of community service required.

Ontario Court Justice Julia Morneau said Hodder's interest in helping the Owen Sound Muslim Association in some way as part of his community service would be a possibility, if the Muslim association agrees.
