Happy Canada Day!

06/30/2021

Canada Day is a time to celebrate our good fortune in living in such a magnificent country. But it is also a time for reflection on what each of us as Canadians is doing to ensure that the principles and values that have created this nation remain strong.

Up until a few decades ago, we were largely unaware that our openness to other cultures, faiths and traditions might one day pose an existential threat in challenging these beliefs. We have alas arrived at an historical juncture where willful blindness to threats is in large part either being ignored or attacked.

Lord of the lands, beneath Thy bending skies,

On field and flood, where'er our banner flies,

Thy people lift their hearts to Thee,

Their grateful voices raise:

May our Dominion ever be

A temple to Thy praise.

Thy will alone let all enthrone;

Lord of the lands, make Canada Thine own:

Lord of the lands, make Canada Thine own!

Presently, we MUST fight against the proposed Bill C-10 (a Bill to amend the broadcasting Act) and Bill C-36 (a Bill to fight online hate speech with criminal code amendments).

Loyal and committed defenders of free speech (heroes like Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant) fought long and hard against Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act. Its passage meant the part of Canadian human rights law that permitted rights complaints to the federal Human Rights Commission for "the communication of hate messages by telephone or on the Internet" became history when it was finally repealed by the Parliament of Canada in June of 2014.

And now - among the provisions of Bill C-36, it would amend the Canadian Human Rights Act to define a new discriminatory practice of communicating hate speech online that applies to public communications by individuals, but not to operators of social-media platforms that enable communication with others. We need a fundamental rethink [of] the consequences of Bills C-10 and C-36.

Stop bill C-36 - Help us to stop the world's worst censorship law petition

This is literally the worst law in the free world. Frankly, the Internet censorship part is the least of it. But the secret complaints system, the cash rewards for complainers, and the Department of Pre-Crime are simply concepts of law that are incompatible with democracies. They belong in authoritarian police states - or science fiction movies.

Note:  If the Fathers of Confederation had seen the state of Canada as it is now they might have one universal opinion among them... Canada will not survive to its 200th Anniversary of Confederation.

KEEP FIGHTING!

Free speech is the lifeblood the of democracy and liberty
